Authors Purpose:
Tolkien said he Drew inspiration from one of his previous works about two elven lovers, He imagined his wife Edith as an Elvish princess named Lúthien and he saw himself as a human, Beren. Tolkien was writing about elves and other mystical things way before the lord of the rings trilogy. Along with this work he drew inspiration from the wartime in europe being second lieutenant, being this tolkien draws upon his military background to make a complex war torn land with its own history worked into every page and line. I think tolkien see's himself most in Gandalf the wise leader that instructs the young but also tells them stories and instructs them on what to do. Gandalf is the most wise and the most careful and thoughtful character in the story.
